1989 Secret Session, London Story - Amy
So, on Monday evening I got followed by Taylor Nation on instagram and received a DM from them telling me to email them my details and to keep it a secret. From past 1989 secret sessions, I knew what was going to happen. I was freaking out. I couldn’t believe that in a matter of days I would be meeting my idol of 8 years. So the days went by and I stayed up till 3am each day thinking about it and making sure I wasn’t going to miss their call. On Wednesday, I finally got the call. The absolutely lovely woman from Taylor Nation called me and said that I was being invited to a secret event, gave me the hotel address, the password that I had to say to someone when we arrived so they knew where to direct me and the day it was going to happen. Friday. Thursday went slowly, as you can imagine, and it was one of the hardest secrets to keep from everyone. One of my friends sisters met her at the Shard, and my friends came up to me and they were like “I’m sorry to break it to you but she met Taylor Swift” (in a jokey way, my friends are lovely) and I had to pretend to be gutted to keep it a secret. Then finally the day came. I woke up at 6am, and I was the happiest person ever which was weird for someone who woke up at 6 in the morning. I got through 4 lessons before I finished at lunch time (I finish early on Fridays which is lucky) and finally travelled home to get ready. I arrived home at around 2:30pm, showered, did my makeup, changed into the outfit I had planned the day before and before I knew it my dad was home and it was time to leave. We got to the hotel, told the woman at the front the password and she directed us into the hotel and the room where we would wait. I walked into the room and saw some familiar faces. Hannah, Zoe, Lauren, and some new faces too. We checked in, and gave in all our stuff before being directed up to the room in groups. When we walked in there was a corridor which we walked along for a few metres before seeing a doorway with stairs going down and a huge table of food laid out for us. I couldn’t eat anything because I felt so nervous but as I looked around, I saw on the second floor of the hotel suite, there was a chair, with a little table next to it. Placed on the table were a candle, a lamp, a little vase of flowers and a speaker with a phone playing music. On the floor there were a dozen scattered cushions for us to sit on. After around 10 minutes we were directed to go upstairs and we all ran towards the front. I was second row, but right opposite the chair. Then after about 20 minutes of settling down, a familiar figure walked around the corner, and the voice saying “Hi guys!” was a voice I knew all too well. I turned around and I saw a tall, perfect person in front of me. Taylor Swift. She walked through us and sat down on the chair and proceeded to tell us how she chose us. She spoke about how she had stalked us before around 7-8 months ago, and how if we had numerous comments or likes from her around that time, that was her choosing us for this. And then before I knew it, she was playing us the album. Now I know everyone says that it is perfect and that all the other albums are just a practise for this one and everyone is probably just like “Yeah we get it but how can Taylor even get any better?” but they’re not kidding. This album is 110% her best one. Every song is so beautifully and well written, but it’s songs with pop beats and sounds and it’s just perfect. I feel like Taylor has changed pop to be more like her, but it is still a pop album. There are just no words to describe how incredible it is. She was constantly making jokes and making us laugh and just generally being adorable and at one point, after the first song had stopped playing she was like “This really isn’t loud at all. Can we get a bigger speaker?” And the people who worked for her were like no…we can hear it from the elevator all the way down the corridor, and she kept arguing for a new speaker and they kept saying no and then finally she gave in and she was like “Fine. We can have a medium volume listening party” and then laughed and it was adorable. She gave an explanation before each one and it made perfect sense with each song. She played one of the voice memos before playing the song and you can really see how they developed. Throughout the playing of the album, she made eye contact with me a few times and held it for like 10 seconds and I held it together but internally I was dying. Not literally, obviously, but still. At one point, I did a silly dance and she just laughed at me and like OH MY GOD. Then the last song played, which was Shake It Off, and we had a little dance party. For part of the song, me and her danced together and again, I DIED. She then explained she was going to tweak her makeup and we got lead down to the room with the large table again. Someone from Taylor Nation called 5 people from group one to go up and wait for her to come out, and I was in group one so I went up and waited. Then she walked around the corner, and 2 girls were in front of me so I waited for them both to have their turns before it was mine. Finally, it was my turn. I walked up to her and I just immediately hugged her and she was like “Hi! Thank you for coming, I love what you’re wearing!”. We had a conversation about shoes and then she asked me if I wanted a funny picture or a cute one and I said funny, then she asked what I wanted to do and I was like idk?? And so she said “Let’s sit on the couch!”. There were two sofas so we picked the one with the best lighting, and then she was like “Okay, you sit there and I’ll sit here and just put my legs over you like this”, and then we took the picture. We then took a picture with my dad, and then we had to leave and got moved away for the next person. I wish I didn’t get taken away because I really wanted to hug her again and tell her thank you for everything and that I love her, so I hope I’ll have another chance to tell her that in person. And then I went into the corridor outside the hotel room and got escorted away. We left the hotel, I took pictures with Zoe and Lauren and then we left. I sat in McDonalds using the wifi and my phone just went CRAZY. This was the best night I could ever wish for. I love Taylor even more than before and I didn’t think that was possible. There are so many memories we made that night and so many memories I have left out because they’re so personal to me, but she was so funny and adorable and just everything you ever imagined her to be. I love you so so so much taylorswift, thank you for everything and thank you for letting me and trusting me to come to this event. I love you so so so much.
